Public Health Insight will be hosting a Live Session with a Q&A on Thursday, February 3 from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. EST to provide current MPH, MSc, or MMASc students with all the information you need to choose the right practicum. We will also talk about:

  • Tips for Applying to Practicum Placements
  • Choosing a Practicum that is Right for You

Note: There will be a focus on MPH/MSc programs in Canada but prospective students from all over the world are welcomed.

Gordon Thane, BMSc, MPH, PMP® graduated from Western University’s MPH program in 2019 and completed his practicum at the National Collaborating Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCCID). He is currently a Program Coordinator at a Health Unit in Ontario, Canada, where he his focused on addressing substance use, mental health, and supporting the local COVID-19 response. Gordon recently received Health Promotion Ontario’s Lori Chow Memorial Award in 2021 for his leadership and advocacy related to anti-Black racism, focus on equity in programming, incredible innovation in health promotion, and dedication to mentoring students and early career professionals.

Bindra Shah, BMSc, MPH graduated from McMaster University’s MPH program in 2019 and completed her practicum at Region of Waterloo Public Health. She is currently a Person-Centred Care Specialist at Ontario Health, where she plays an active role collaborating with regional partners to develop system-level programs and advance the quality of patient care province-wide. She currently sits as a Steering Committee member for the Canadian Association for Global Health MentorNet.

Purva Mehta graduated from McMaster University’s Global Health program in 2020 and completed her practicum at a Humanitarian Health Ethics Research Group. She is currently a Planning and Operations Coordinator at Ted Rogers Centre for Heart Research, where she manages organizational-wide systems, projects, and funding for research funding. She has a keen interest in equitable health access, social determinants of health, and maternal, newborn, and child health.

Leshawn Benedict, MPH, MSc, PMP® graduated from Western University’s MPH program in 2019 and completed his practicum at the ASEAN Institute for Health Development in Thailand. He is a Community Manager for a Global Health Community of Practice with over 250 members across 35 countries, focusing on Neglected Tropical Disease programs. He currently sits as a Steering Committee member for the Canadian Association for Global Health MentorNet, a Canadian-wide program that connects students and early career professionals with mentors to foster future global health leaders.
