Meet Shania Bhopa, our Public Health Insight Community Star! Shania currently works to support the mental health of youth transitioning out of shelters into independent housing, and is interested in improving global health education at the secondary school level.
In this post, Shania shares her passion for global health by providing responses to the following questions:
Global Health is the intersection between globalization and healthcare. Health provision and access should be equitable globally; however, in numerous contexts, vast disparities exist. To understand these issues on a global scale, we must first think locally. Global health to me means the interconnectedness of our planet with an understanding of the political, social, economic and financial implications that affect ones health.
I am co-founder of The Canadian Courage Project a non profit organization based in Toronto striving to support the mental health of youth transitioning out of shelters into independent housing. Secondly I am host of the Global Health Collective podcast and Co-Director of The Canadian Global Health Youth Alliance a non-profit focused to improve global health education at the secondary school level. I am excited to announce my first children’s book Gurk & Bianca, the story of the gut-brain connection on a path to mindfulness.
No child’s health should be left up to chance. The way we can judge our communities worldwide is by analyzing how they treat their children. I want to see equity and well-being of youth at the forefront of all operations worldwide.
