It’s Time to Focus on Health Prevention and Promotion | Derek Yach | TEDxMonteCarlo

What does public health mean to you?

Public health to me; means all members of the society being able to live beyond diseases and achieve wellbeing. People need to know how and what good to do to replace their practices that research has proven to be toxic for good health. This way anyone practicing the measures in their daily life; by seeing good outcomes of their practice may last longer in the safe health practice. I ought to use this field for both but more as a ladder to creating better health than one to destroy diseases.

What work do you do in public health?

Currently, I am working as a public health promoter through non-governmental organizations to give preventive education on various diseases to the impacted societies. I am widely interested in social entrepreneurship and so I engage in research, leadership and charitable activities among others that favour wellbeing and solve immediate community challenges.

What is your public health message?

My public health message is that all people deserve to afford life by being able to manage their health expenses, which is a result of reduced disease burden achieved through prevention and cost reduction to the already sick by the use of affordable and reliable financial insurance. I wish to see a change through the reduction of the burden that families experience due to a strain on their finances when members suffer from diseases that would have rather been prevented using timely follow-up of public health measures and good health practices.
