Many families in India are making difficult choices every day as a result of unplanned medical expenses, with the government relying on out-of-pocket costs to cover almost two-thirds of India’s healthcare expenditure.
In the second episode of a three-part series “Medical Emergencies, Financial Catastrophes, & India’s Hope,” Gayatri discusses the importance of getting patients into the hospital and the financial challenges they face. She explains how The Soondra Foundation provides cash grants to cover the cost of the initial hospital or clinic visit to prevent financial catastrophe and help patients get the treatment they need. Gayatri also shares the impact numbers of the foundation, including the average amount of money given and the number of families helped. Finally, she talks about the future of the foundation and her goal for it to become redundant.
